Oh shit

I don't live blog, but just so you know WGN finally got its act together and by the time they joined the game, Chicago had a runner on 2nd & two outs (I learned A.J. Punchmeplease laced a double to right), then Beckett proceeded to walk three straight batters, throwing an ungodly amount of breaking stuff that was not finding the plate.

Although he did fan Juan Uribe with the bases loaded on a 3-2 curve to minimize the damage, this is not exactly a great start to this weekend series.

Has anyone else thought about that start Beckett made here last July, when he allowed 6 runs and three longballs but still won the game as the BoSox outslugged the ChiSox, 9-6?

For some reason I have not been able to get that game out of my head.

Let's hope today isn't a repeat of that horror show.

Game on (for now)

As of right now the plan is to start this game.

But just as the game was set to begin the rain began again, and WGN (damn baseball package!) experienced technical difficulties and I have not been able to see any of the action.

This series has been so fucked up already I'm afraid to see what's going to transpire in the actual games themselves.

The WGN announcer just came on and said they are experiencing tech. diffs in the truck, and I have missed the entire top of the first and into the bottom half.

This is fucking insanity!

What's worse, having a Friday afternoon game cancelled, or not being able to watch it due to a cable station's ineptitude?

Sox/Sox game postponed

It's official: tonight's game between the Bosox & Chisox has been postponed and will be made up as part of a doubleheader tomorrow.

According to the Globe's Amelie Benjamin and the Hawk on WGN (damn Extra Innings!), the rain stopped for a while around 9:30EST and the crew was clearing the tarp, the field was draining and the players were milling about the dugout.

But then another round of downpours began, and that combined with how long it would take to get the field ready relative to the already late hour made it a pretty easy decision to call the game off.

Still no word on how Tito will handle the staff, but don't be surprised if Beckett goes in GM1, Tavarez in the second game at 7:10 and then Schill & Wake over the weekend.

Oh well, looks like the potential late night just turned into an early one. Time to check out what's on HD Net.

Bosox @ Chisox Game 1 Update

The game between the Red Sox & White Sox is being delayed by rain in the Windy City. The start time has been pushed back twice, with the latest reports stating that the officials will review the conditions & forecast at about 10PM EST and decide whether or not baseball will be played tonight.

All I know is this could seriously fuck with the Boston pitching situation. WGN reported that if the game is postponed, the teams would play a day/night double header tomorrow, since Boston does not return to Chicago this season and Saturday's game is on FOX.

It will be interesting to see what Tito does with the roatation if that is the case.

Will he just move everyone up a day? Or will he skip Schill tomorrow night and start Tavarez instead, an identical situation he faced last Friday in the DH with the Halos at Fenway?

Anyway, it's all speculation for now. In about an hour we should know more, but either way this makes for a messed up start to what should already be a tough enough series.

Play Ball? Maybe at 4:30

According to the latest from Globe reporter Chris Gasper the Sox have announced intentions of starting today's game at 4:30, yet with more foul weather expected to blow in, don't bet on the game starting at that time, or at this rate even finishing today.

In the meantime here's a picture taken Friday, just to remind my family & friends up in Beantown what they're missing.

Tonight's game postponed-AGAIN!

For the second time in three days the Sox have to postpone a game due to shitty weather in the Northeast.

And for the second time in three days the Sox will play a day/night doubleheader, beginning tomorrow at 1:00 to make up for the missed date. The immediate turnaround is due to the fact that this series marks the beginning of interleague play, and the Sox and Braves only play one other time this year, at Atlanta June 18-20, leaving little room for makeup dates.

So we here in Red Sox Nation are left with another night of no baseball, forced to watch the NBA, hang with the kiddies, and tend to yardwork to occupy our free time this evening from 7:00-10:00.

Oops, guess no one up there will be doing any outdoor activities tonight.

Happy Patriots Day

For all of you up in the Commonwealth I just want to wish you a Happy Patriots Day!

For all of my readers who are not from Boston, no, this is not a day set aside to celebrate the New England Patriot's 3 championships- that's called "every day."

Let me explain to you what our very provincial holiday means: it is a celebration of the Battle of Lexington & Concord, and since 1969 it has been observed on the third Monday in April, making this a 3-day holiday weekend in the Hub.

Here's the three most common things people do on this important and cherished day:

1.) The Boston Marathon
From Hopkinton to Boston and from Rosie Ruiz to that famous Kenyan, the oldest marathon in the country has been run in weather ranging from extremely hot to bitterly cold; look for the latter today.

Some people also refer to this day as Marathon Monday.

2.)The Sox game at Fenway
For every year since 1960 the Red Sox have played a home game the morning of the marathon, in case traffic didn't get crazy enough around Kenmore Square from just one of the events.

3.) Playing hooky to catch one of the above
Although most business and schools are close on this holiday, when I was a kid that wasn't always the case. That didn't stop nearly everyone in the Greater Boston area from playing hooky from one or the other in order to either hand out orange slices to dehydrated runners somewhere along the route, or be lucky enough to get into the game at Fenway.

With the nasty weather that landed in the area starting yesterday morning the start time of today's Sox game with the Angels has been pushed back from 10:00 to 12:00, and could move again depending on the conditions. MLB officials, plagued by a slew of rain/snow outs the past few weeks, are determined to get this game in, and it looks like if they have to push it back to 4:00 they will still play today following yesterday's cancellation.

So get your rain poncho on, grab some citrus snacks and get ready for a day on the sporting calendar that has no peer.

Runners.

Baseball.

Hooky.

It doesn't get any better than Patriots Day in Boston.
